Tom Wyllie - Market Trader?

Tom Wyllie North East Singer Morpeth
Tom Wyllie performed in Market Place Morpeth today to a really friendly and appreciative audience. Our thanks to the many people who stopped to offer kind words, and to the people who bought one (or in some cases both!) of Tom's CD's.

Thankfully, the sun shone, even if it was a little windier than we've been used to lately, and people were able to visit the wonderful stall in the Market Place, whilst listening in to Tom's music. He sang from his Classical and Musical Theatre repertoire, but also included some Take That, Keane, Lumineers and Michael Bublé, plus lots more.

Frank Rescigno, Director, Arts & Culture, at Greater Morpeth Development Trust, later wrote:

On 3 August Tom Wyllie performed in Morpeth as part of the annual Summer Time series of events. It was also the day of the Morpeth Farmers Market so it added a special twist to the day. I have received many comments about how much people enjoyed his singing from visitors and stall holders. The stall holders told me that this was an unexpected treat and we should do this more often.  Some thought it was a CD playing and were pleasantly surprised that it was a live performance. Tom gave the people of Morpeth a very enjoyable afternoon of music and many said how much they enjoyed it. Tom, thank you for making this a very special afternoon.

For those that missed Tom's performance today, his next public gig is next Saturday, 10th August, up at The Boat Inn, Leaplish, Kielder. It's a beautiful setting looking out over the reservoir, so why not come along for a lovely meal and have Tom entertain you?

The shape of things to come?

Royal Opera House
Last week, Tom went down, by invitation to English National Opera. He had some well known names in the industry listen to him, offer advice and see whether they think he has what it takes to sing professionally.

When we talk of English National Opera, you will be thinking, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden? Well, Tom was there in June, but just visiting as a tourist! This latest visit was not in quite such glamourous surroundings, but was still walking in the footsteps of his heroes!......

Last week, Tom went to English National Opera's studios in West Hampstead, and sang in the same room as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo before him!

English National Opera Studios, West Hampstead
He was heard by Valerie Reid (Mezzo Soprano) who has performed with English National Opera, Scottish Opera and given concerts all over the world. Then he met and sang for Greg Arrowsmith (Musical Director for more Musicals than you can think of), and last, but by no means least, he sang for Graeme Danby (Bass) who has performed at several of the world's leading Opera Houses.

They all gave Tom useful advice, and he will be meeting up with them again, and whilst their advice and comments are private, neither Tom nor they will mind us saying that they were really impressed! It is worth mentioning that they praised the quality of Tom's coaching to date and so special mention should go to Tom's coach, Tony St John. They worked Tom hard, but he left West Hampstead absolutely buzzing and is really looking forward to meeting up with them again!
